Title: Director, Corporate Origination


The Director, Corporate Origination will originate, structure, negotiate, and close deals for large-scale, off-site solar plants with corporate energy buyers. He/she will develop and submit offers, negotiate term sheets, and negotiate and close asset sale agreements and long term PPAs.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop long term strategic plan for sourcing volume and bookings from the corporate renewables market segment
  • Develop sales plan (long-term/strategic and short term) for region or market segment
  • Source and build new customer relationships and sales channels
  • Develop deep knowledge of state/regional market structures and product offerings available to customers in each distinct market
  • Proactively work with Government Affairs to facilitate the creation of new markets
  • Analyze and interpret legal contracts, business journals, financial reports, and other relevant documents
  • Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, employees or regulatory agencies as necessary
  • Prepare written communications and PowerPoint presentations that are clear, succinct, and compelling.
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively across a wide range of both internal/external and technical/non-technical stakeholders
  • Negotiate persuasively, weighing trade-offs in real-time and considering customer’s underlying needs
  • Develop competitive analysis; key competitors, product offerings, pricing, etc. through strong customer relationships and deep knowledge of competitor products and offerings
  • Secure front line market intelligence and communicate to the broader organization
  • Effectively lead, coach, develop and coordinate with direct report (i.e., Manager, Corporate Origination)

Characteristics of Ideal Candidate:

  • Ability to drive innovative deal structures, and move quickly in a rapidly growing market
  • Strong understanding of wholesale power markets, PPA contract negotiations, and solar power project development fundamentals and project costs
  • Current in all customer, industry, government affairs and regulatory policy/news
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including staff, customers, external partners, and vendors
  • Expert level written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability, often with little or ambiguous data


  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Master of Business Administration degree a plus
  • Demonstrated track record successfully sourcing, proposing, structuring, negotiating, and closing highly complex, multi-million dollar transactions
  • Experience with asset sale and PPA transactions with utilities and corporate energy buyers preferred
  • Experience in sourcing, building, and managing strong industry and customer relationships
  • Experience in national and international energy transactions. Power trading experience preferred
  • 5+ years of sales or business development experience, ideally in the power industry and/or renewable energy market sector; if less than 5 years of sales or business development experience, some experience in management consulting or investment banking at a top-tier firm


This position will require regular travel to our regional offices including San Francisco and Pasadena, CA, and Charlottesville, VA.
