Summer Internship: Project Development

Location: Charlottesville, Virginia

Position Summary: Coronal Energy, powered by Panasonic, a solar project development firm specializing in large‐scale solar PV projects, is seeking a Summer Intern to support solar project portfolio development. The Intern will be a member of the Coronal Energy Operations team in the Charlottesville, Virginia office and will be responsible for providing technical and analytical support for projects from early stage development (market analysis and site selection) through mid‐ to late stage project market analysis and proposal development. The Intern will report directly to the Director of Real Estate Assets and work closely with Business Development Analysts, Project Engineers, and Project Developers.

Candidates must demonstrate keen interest and knowledge of renewable energy development, market analysis and research, land use planning and/or development, site analysis, and a proven ability to efficiently and effectively multi‐task in a team‐ oriented, fast‐paced environment.  Ideal candidates should possess an agile mind and an excellent sense of humor.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Site Identification, Selection, & Analysis (60%)
  • Market Analysis & Data Collection (20%)
  • Project Developer Support – Document preparation, etc. (20%)


Including but not limited to:

  • Assisting in the identification and targeting of prospective clients through background market research and filtering
  • Identifying and analyzing land use constraints for solar development site selection  
  • Assisting Project Developers with relationship‐building efforts
  • Helping prepare proposals, letters of agreement, marketing pieces, and other documents critical to the development process
  • Preparing team members for visits with background institution and market research, as well as any necessary documents or other materials
  • Special projects as necessary and appropriate  


Desired Skills:

  • Strong technical background and proven ability to communicate well in a team environment
  • Comprehension of land use planning constraints and typical development permitting procedures
  • Ability to interpret maps and plans
  • Experience with Google Earth
  • Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) preferred
  • Highly motivated, organized and deadline‐oriented


Education & Additional Certifications:

Applicant may be a currently enrolled student or a recent graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Geography, Planning, or Landscape Architecture. Other relevant majors will be considered.
